Centaurs and Unicorns

I went to see a South African band called Savuka, formerly Jaluka, featuring Johnny Clegg. “Scatterlings” was a song they had done in the 80s, I think.  I loved it.  I was heavily into human origins at the time, and this song referred to early humans leaving the African continent and journeying into all parts of the world, and how we are all descended from these people.

This concert took place several years ago.  But something reminded me of it.  A centaur is the symbol for Sagittarius. How did this creature come into our mythology?  For instance, unicorns are mentioned in the Old Testament, so literalists believe in their existence. As well, in recent years, a one-horned roe deer was discovered, a genetic anomaly, but proof that such a creature could exist.  Centaurs, however, have never been found.  Yet something I saw at that concert reminded me of centaurs.  And something else reminds me of them, as well.

Can you imagine what this is?
